s'mores cupcakes

every day is an opportunity to learn new things, and we are constantly faced with challenging situations that do not always work out the best. in the past week, i have learned many lessons… some easy, some hard… some that will have a big impact on my life, some that were comical. in the end though, at least there were cupcakes. and now, for your learnin’ pleasure, this week’s lessons:

so, i will be one of the first to admit that valentine’s day is a bogus holiday. no… this isn’t just because i am single; ever since i learned the origin of the holiday and the story of saint valentine i couldn’t help but think the holiday just wasn’t right. there are, however, a few nice things about it:

  1. for those couples that have been together for what seems like forever and they are always focused on the kids, the mundane daily routine, etc, it is a nice reminder to be romantic
  2. it is kinda cute to see kids reveal their crushes by giving the “good” valentine from the box to the one they like (do kids still even give those boxed valentines?)

redvelvet 8

as you may recall from my post of lauren’s gigundo poptart cake, i bake for the birthdays of the team that i manage. for andy’s birthday i decided to ask his girlfriend what he likes and i held my breath in hopes of something i could whip up pretty easily. when she said that he would love a strawberry rhubarb pie i breathed a sigh of relief.  i could totally do that. THEN… oh then… friday afternoon i get an instant message that he wants these zombie cupcakes. i am totally up for a challenge, but i checked the halloween section of the few places i buy my candy stuff from and did not seem to be able to find a brain shaped candy mold. i called up candyland crafts (it is like disneyland for candy makers, but with no frills) and it turns out they do have a brain mold but it was hiding in a different section. the good news is that they had it, the bad news is that it was way bigger than cupcake size.
